Good retention doesn't happen by accident — it's the result of the right products, the right technique, and understanding your environment. Let's break it down simply so you can start seeing longer-lasting results with every set.

Your Climate Affects Your Glue — Here's What to Know

Lash adhesive is sensitive to humidity and temperature, and where you live plays a big role in how your glue performs. If your studio is in a warm, humid region, your glue will cure faster — meaning you need to work quickly and may do better with a slightly slower-drying adhesive. In cooler, drier environments, a faster-curing glue helps ensure a strong bond before the lash is placed.

The golden rule: know your room conditions before you open your glue.

  • Ideal humidity: 45–65%
  • Ideal temperature: 20–25°C

Invest in a small hygrometer (humidity meter) for your studio — it's a game changer. If your humidity is too low, use a humidifier. Too high? A dehumidifier or air conditioner will help.

Too Much Glue = Stickies (and Unhappy Clients)

This is one of the most common mistakes, especially for newer lash techs. Using too much adhesive causes stickies — where two or more natural lashes get bonded together. This restricts the natural lash growth cycle and can lead to premature shedding, discomfort, and even lash damage.

Less is more. You only need a tiny, precise dot of glue — just enough to coat the base of the extension without flooding it. A good rule of thumb: if you can see the glue, there's probably too much.

Quality Tweezers: The Unsung Hero of Retention

Your tweezers are an extension of your hands — and the quality of your tools directly impacts the quality of your work. Here's why it matters for retention:

  • Precise placement means the extension sits flush against the natural lash, maximising the bonding surface and improving hold.
  • Proper isolation with a good isolation tweezer prevents stickies before they happen.
  • Consistent tension from well-balanced tweezers reduces the risk of the lash twisting or sitting at an angle during curing.

Worn-out or misaligned tweezers make it nearly impossible to achieve clean, accurate placement — no matter how good your glue is.
